Summary of the Project

 

A.      Title of the Action:  Building Capacity of the Potential Women for Ensuring Inclusive Participation in Decision Making Level, Nepal

B.    Overall Objective of the action: The overall objective of the project is "To ensure inclusive participation of women in decision making in state policy, political and social institutions".

C.    Specific Objectives

  • To increase active participation of the women in decision making level of political parties, state mechanism and social institution.
  • To enhance the capacity of potential women leaders for meaningful participation in social and political institutions.

D.    Location of the Action:  Six VDCs of Sunsari district (previously- Singhiya, Sonapur and Babiya and new VDCs- Satterjhora, Baklauri and Simariya)

E.    Duration of the Project:  Two years (January 2015 to December 2016)

F.    Total Budget: The total budget of the project is NPR 58, 88,450 (Fifty Eight lakhs Eighty Eight thousand four hundred and fifty only)

G.   Right Holders:

Primary Right Holders: - Women leaders from marginalized, socially excluded, economically disadvantaged (Madesi, Ethnic, Dalit/Untouchable) communities are mainly focused.

Secondary Right Holders: - Representatives from the Village development Committee, District Development Committee, Political Parties of different level, government institutions, media and stakeholders working in similar field are the secondary right holders of the project.

H.  Expected Results and Activities to be carried out:

Result 1:  To increase active participation of the women in decision making level of political parties, state mechanism and social institution  

New VDCs

  • Formation or reformation of groups.
  • Meeting with leaders of the political and social institutions of the VDC level to discuss on importance of women participation in their institutions.
  • Policy and program analysis of the political and social institution for updating status of inclusive participation of women.
  • Workshop to share the findings of policy & program analysis of political parties/social institutions at VDC level as well as formulating/planning inclusion policies/program/action plan of political parties/social institutions at village level.
  • Memorandum submission to the political and social institutions for ensuring inclusive participation of the women.

Ongoing VDCs:

  • Meeting of the Women in Policy Advocacy Alliance (Network of the grassroots level women group).
  • Interaction between male leaders of political parties, leaders of Sister Organizations of Political Party and Leaders of Social Institutions to ensure inclusive participation of women.
  • Workshop for formulating/planning inclusion policies/program/action plan of political parties/social institutions at village level.
  • Review of the action plan developed by political parties/social institutions at village level.

Result-2: Increased number of capacitate women to contest election both in political and social institutions.

New VDCs

  • Training of Trainers to the women leaders of new three VDCs on Human Rights, Women Rights, Local Governance and Leadership.
  • Two days training to the group members, leaders of political parties and other social institutions' members on Human Rights/Women Rights and legal provision for increasing inclusive participation, leadership and election campaign.

Ongoing VDCs

  • Advance level Training of Trainers to the women leaders of the three program VDCs at district level on Leadership, Local Governance and Election Campaign.
  • Two days training to the leaders/members of sister wings of major political parties at VDC level on Leadership: Communication, Lobby & Advocacy, Campaigning, Public Speaking etc.

Result-3: Promoted effective use and implementation of policies, provisions and programs for poor, women and excluded community.

New VDCs

  • Two days training to the group members, leaders of political parties and other social institutions' members on Local self governance act 2055(14 steep planning process) and policies and program of government.
  • Interaction meeting/workshop between DDC, DADO, DLDO and other government line agencies, local institution and women groups for mapping local resources and implementing government policies/decisions at district level.
  • Public hearing to increase the access of women to local resources at village level.

Ongoing VDCs

  • Two days training to the group members, leaders of political parties and other social institutions' members on 14 steep planning process, concept/proposal and report writing in local context.
  • Interaction meeting between DDC, DADO, DLDO and other government line agencies, local institution and women groups for mapping local resources and implementing government policies/decisions.
  • Public hearing to increase the access of the women to local resources at village level.

Other Activities

  • Meeting of Project Management Committee.
  • Meeting of Project Advisory Committee.
  • Project launching at 3 newly selected DDCs.
  • Review meeting with stakeholders and project staffs (district Level)
  • Annual Sharing workshop with government and civil society representative in Kathmandu
  • Training to project staffs
  • Radio program for creating awareness on emerging issues.
  • Celebration of different international days (March 8, Human rights day, untouchability, 16 days activism on violence against women).
  • Mobilization of Women Resource Centre.
