Distribution of Relief Packages to Earthquake Victims, Kavre


Nepal is reeling under crisis since 25 April, 2015 after it was hit by 7.9 magnitude tremor and several aftershocks. The earthquake death toll has crossed 8,697 till today and 16,392 have been injured. In this regard, Jagaran Nepal with coordination with other organizations has been distributing relief packages to the affected people within center and among the districts as well.

Jagaran Nepal is a non-governmental organization working for ensuring women right, sustainable peace, governance and women's economic empowerment. Jagaran is working in Kavre District for last many years with community women and women leaders. In this Earthquake, one of the devastated district is Kavre since many people have died and there have been lots of damages in this district. So we have chosen this area to distribute  relief package.

On May 20, 2015, Jagaran Nepal with support of IM-Swedish Development Partner had gone to Jaisithok VDC of Kavre district to distribute relief package to 230 households of quake-affected people for ward no. 1, 6, 7 and 8. The relief package included food items such as rice, lentils, cooking oil, salt, sugar and tea; and non-food items such as soap, toothpaste, and toothbrush. Similarly, on May 24, we are planning to distribute necessary blankets, Cholo, Gown, Shawl, Sanitary pad, babies' Cloth and food for altogether 75 pregnant women and post-natal (sutkeri) women of Jaisithok VDC. This humanitarian work has become successful with support of Local level political leader, VDC Secretary, social mobilizers and volunteers.

Jagaran Nepal has become successful in reaching 230 household (mainly Magar, Tamang, Dalit, Newar, etc) of 4 wards of Jaisithok and distributing relief packages with support from IM-Swedish Development Partner and in close coordination with DDRC, DAO, DDC, VDC. We, the team of Jagaran Nepal are thankful to IM-Swedish Development Partner, VDC Secretary, local level political leader, journalists, social mobilizers and others for their  kind support.
