Dialogue between Women Wings of Political Parties and their Leaders on ensuring at least 33% women participation in Constitutional Assembly 2070

Jagaran Nepal has been lobbying and advocating for ensuring at least 33% women participation in Constitution Assembly 2070 as the recent election results (women participation through FPTP is 4.17% = 10 women candidates out of 240 seats) clearly shows that at least 33% women participation cannot be achieved through First past the Pole (FPTP) and Proportional Representation (PR) electoral process.
In this context, when all the political parties are in process of submitting names of PR candidates to election commission of Nepal, the last date of submission is on 25 December, Jagaran Nepal organized a dialogue program yesterday on 22 December in which women wings of different political parties had interactions with their second tier male leaders (central committee members of different political parties)  to discuss on the possible ways for ensuring at least 33% women participation in CA 2070.
The program was chaired by Sharmila Karki, Chairperson of Jagaran Nepal and President of NGO Federation of Nepal. Janak Chalise of CPN- ML presented a paper while the program was facilitated by Meena Bista of Jagaran Nepal. Political parties leaders representation were from Chandra Bhandari -Nepali Congress and newly elected CA member, Karna Thapa of CPN- UML newly elected CA member, Ganesh Bahadur Pun – United CPN Maoist and newly elected CA member, Govind Chaudhary, General secretary of Terai Madhesh Loktantric party and Kapil Pokharel of CPN –Marxist Leninist .
