Interaction Program Held on Status, Challenges and Way Forward of EEDG Project

Jagaran Nepal organized a day interaction program intended to review the project- status, challenges and way forward of the EEDG project. The program was organized among the representatives of all 5 districts of Karnali region; government authorities such as Election Commission of Nepal, National Women Commission and other related stakeholders as well as the journalists at the national level on 23rd May 2014.

The program was chaired by Ms. Sharmila Karki- Chairperson of Jagran Nepal. Mr Nil Kantha Upreti- Chief Election Commissioner- National Election Commission was the Chief Guest. The welcome remarks was put forward by Ms. Sharmila Karki. She also highlighted the objective of the program and provided a glimpse about the project itself and the activities. Sharing about her experiences and complications at the time of project preparation, she expressed her happiness to the impacts the project has been able to leave in people of Karnali about the electoral education and the process. For that she expressed her sincere thanks to all the project staffs and the centre, region and at the district along with Project Advisory Committee expressing the importance of this project in improving the conceptual clarity among the people of Karnali about democracy and governance.
 
Chief Guest Nil Kantha Upreti put some views regarding the program. He well appreciated the contribution of EEDG project in awareness raising and capacity building of Karnali people. He said that local election is most important to strength the local mechanism. He added that people will feel relief if the local election is held as soon as possible.
 
With an intention to review the impacts of the Project in the respective districts at the local level – experiences and challenges in regard to election specific to the district in the own voices of people of Karnali, representatives from all five district were given a platformto put their voices and issues in first hand to the authentic government authority.

While other guests were Ms. Sesh Chad Tara- Chairperson of National Women Commission, Mr. Charan Prasad Prasai- Member of NEOC and Senior Human Right activists, Mr. Bhawani Prasad Kharel – Chairperson of HURFON, Prof Kapil Shrestha - Vice Chairperson of NEOC, Tanka Panta- Senior Journalists, Shanta Sedia- Senior Advocate, Gopal Lamsal- General Secretary of NGO Federation. The program was moderated by Mr Raj Kumar Sapkota- National Project Co ordinator.
 
On that occasion district Project officers and chairpersons of partner organizations expressed their experiences regarding the project and working experiences.
