Interaction program regarding Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the issues related to women

An interaction program was organized by Jagaran Women Resource Centre- Biratnagar on "Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the issues related to women". The program was conducted on 26th June 2014 amidst the members of the Resource centre, representatives of different civil society organizations as well as the journalists. The program was aimed to inform the participants know about Truth and Reconciliation Act, Commission formation and the incorporation of issues of women in it and the way forward.

The paper was presented by advocate Mr Jagat Thapa. In course his presentation, Mr Thapa highlighted the fact that women and children were much affected at the time of Armed conflict and there lies the need to look after their issues with much priority and concern. Talking about the Commission, he shared that there is provision for 5 members in the Commission including only one women where he also shared about the other provisions of the act.
 
The participants held the common view for the need of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to be women friendly with the participation of Political Parties, Human Right Activists as well as Women Right Activists so as to make it inclusive, unbiased and women friendly. The participants expressing their happiness on knowing about Truth and Reconciliation Committee and the issues of women which was a bit unfamiliar to them and requested for such programs on the genuine issues.

In the program, information was given about the provision of Truth and Reconciliation Act as well as the formation of Commission and the participation of women in it.
