‘Conceptual Clarity on Climate Change and Its Impact on Women’ Program Held

Jagaran Nepal organized an interaction program on “Conceptual Clarity on Climate Change and Its Impact on Women” in the presence of rural women belonging to 35 districts of 5 development regions (especially N-FOWRC) and civil society members on November 15, 2009. The co-organizers of the program were Women in Climate Justice (WOCJ) and Global Gender Climate Nepal (GGCAN).

The conceptual clarity on climate change and its overall impacts on rainfall, agriculture, forestry, bio-diversity and health and overcome strategies for the country like Nepal were discussed at the program. Dr. Sarbaraj Khadka from RRN briefed about the concept of food security, impact of climate change on food security and its overall impacts on women. Similarly, Women rights, land rights and agricultural occupancy of women were discussed with connection to climate change at the program.

The initiatives of state on climate change, role of civil society were discussed at the program. There were resource persons from All Nepal Peasants’ Federation (ANPFA), Women Rights and Land, RRN and Ministry of Environment to clarify the issue of climate change and its overall impact on women and marginalized group of people. Women perspectives ideas on climate change and its strategic way-forwards were given by the participants of the program. Jagaran Nepal president Sharmila Karki facilitated the program.
