One day National Level Workshop organized

With aim to discuss on the present scenario of country and provide information on inter linkage between democracy, election and human rights; one day national level workshop was organized on 21st January 2013 at Union House, Anamnagar Kathmandu Nepal.

 Jagaran Nepal and Himalaya Conservation & Development Association (HCDA) organized the national level workshop amidst the participation of district level staffs, Election Commission of Nepal, organizations working in the area of electoral education, International non government organization and media.

Speaking in welcome program Ms. Sharmila Karki, Chairperson of Jagaran Nepal highlighted the objectives of the workshop. "Election is a means of democracy and Jagaran Nepal has implemented such program that will keep national values, norms live", she said. Concerning the present transitional status of country and to aware people on civic as well as electoral education, Jagaran Nepal has been implementing Electoral Education for Democratic Governance (EEDG) program in Karnal. Electoral education in Karnali shall be contributed to bring change in the live of people of Karnali and ensure the democratic governance", she added.  

Dr.Gopal Krishna Siwakoti, General Secretary of National Election Observation Committee (NEOC) presented a paper on "Inter Linkages between Democracy, election and human rights". Sharing the paper Dr. Siwakoti told that civil society should be more aware and organized to end the present transitional injustice, impunity and political impasse. Evolution of democracy, democracy and citizen sovereignty, transitional justice and election were some important contents included in the paper.   

Representative of National Election Commission of Nepal Mr. Hemraj Aryal expressed that Election Commission of Nepal is also implementing electoral education related activities all over the country. Similarly civil societies, media, NGOs and private sectors are determined as possible stakeholders." We all have the same goal and objectives to aware citizens on electoral   education". He added.

Prof. Kapil Shrestha told that Karnali is really challenging and this is challenge and opportunity as well for Jagaran Nepal and HCDA. Mr. Bhawani Kharel, General Secretary of HURFON, Ms. Nikila Shrestha, representative of UNDP, Suraj Sigdel, representative of IFCS, EEDG Project Advisors Ms. Shanta Shedhai, Basanti Shahi, Tanka Panta and Gajadhar Sunar, Human rights activist had also put their valuable suggestions.  

This national level workshop was executed by Jagaran Nepal and Himalaya Conservation and Development Association (HCDA) Humla in assistance of European Union under EEDG programme. A total of 65 participants (Male:- 39, Female:- 26) were present in the workshop.
